The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has announced two different paid athlete internship opportunities which are open to current and recently retired aquatics athletes. They are: the FINA Athlete Intern and FINA-Myrtha Pools internship programme.
For the FINA Athlete Intern position, two candidates that have competed at an elite international level in the past four years – including the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju in 2019, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and the 14th and 15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) editions respectively – will be selected to join the global governing body of aquatics sport for a six-month period that will entail working with FINA’s sports operations team to deliver the biggest events in the pool and open water for 2022, like the FINA World Championships this summer in Budapest, various Water Polo fixtures, and the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) this December in Kazan (RUS).
“You will work with local organising committees, liaise with national swimming federations and operate between various FINA departments and stakeholders to manage and run competitions in Swimming, Artistic Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Diving, High Diving, Water Polo, and Masters,” FINA stated on its website.
Applicants have to possess a native or working-level of English, while those that have earned a four-year university degree will be given extra consideration.
The FINA-Myrtha Pools internship programme is “tailored for aquatics athletes looking to grow in their business and project management skills”. Two candidates will be selected to intern at Myrtha Pools, the Official FINA Partner trusted to build the field of play used at the world’s most significant aquatics events. The successful candidates will join the Myrtha Pools team at their headquarters in Castiglione delle Stiviere in Italy’s northern Lombardy region or at one of the company’s seven other locations around the world to gain world-class experience in project management roles.
“We are happy to start the FINA internship program,” said Myrtha Pools CEO Roberto Colletto. “This is an initiative that allows us to share our expertise on competition pools, from design to production and installation, and to further strengthen the relationship with FINA along with the athletes of today, and those of the future”.
To apply for any or both of these programmes, a CV and cover letter expressing interest in the internship (500 words max) are required and should be sent to hr@fina.org. For the FINA-Myrtha Pools internship programme, applications will be accepted before deadline 1 March 2022 and it is necessary to write “FINA – Myrtha Pools Internship” in the email subject line.
