Ghana’s swimming progidy,Abeiku Gyekye Jackson has been offered a one year scholarship by F.I.N.A ( Fédération internationale de natation ) the world governing body for swimming in a short ceremony at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium today.
This was organised by the Ghana Swimming Association to hint the media of this giant opportunity that they have managed to secure for the captain of the Ghana Swim Team. In attendance were the president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, Mr Theophilus Wilson Edzie the president of Ghana Swimming Association, Farida A.Iddris the treasurer of the Ghana Swimming, Mr. Charles Mensah the technical director , Mr. Kodwo Abbiw Jackson the national coach and Mr Seth Nti the sports development officer of the swimming association.
Mr .Ben Nunoo Mensah congratulated Abeiku Jackson for his hard work ,determination and the ability to combine sports and education at the same time. The GOC capo was the main orchestrator for this particular scholarship. Mr Nunoo Mensah also presented Abeiku Jackson with his scholarship and ticket to leave Ghana on Friday for Russia.
The treasurer of the association who doubles as a Bureau member for Cana Farida Iddris elaborated more about how Abeiku got the one year scholarship , it all happened when he was a micro second off the qualification mark for Tokyo Olympics when he participated in the Cana Zone 2 senior swimming championship that was held in Ghana last year from 5th March to 8th March 2020.
The one year scholarship will see Abeiku Jackson training at the Fina development center in Kazan,Russia and will also compete in various competitions to qualify for the Olympic games in Tokyo,Japan this year.
Theophilus Wilson Edzie ,the president of the Ghana Swimming Association was full of praise to the national coach Kwodwo Abbiw Jackson who solely inspired Abeiku Jackson and other swimmers that they can do it. He thanked him for making Ghana Swimming proud with his funds and also making champions out of the swimmers.
Abeiku Jackson was thankful to all the coaches who have made him who he is today and promised to worked hard to make the nation proud. His advised to his other team mates was that they must listen to their coaches and also learn very hard because they are more opportunities out there for everyone.
The Ghana Swimming Association gave Abeiku Jackson $500 as pocket money as he leaves the shores of Ghana this Friday to Russia to begin his scholarship at the Fina development centre.
