Raymond Atsu who took part in the Open Water swimming competition at the Bukom International Pool on Sunday during the 14th CANA African Swimming Championship has appealed to the sports authorities to support young swimmers to have interest in the sport and encouragement to compete at the highest level.
Speaking to Yours Truly after he failed to complete the 3 kilometers race in water, he admitted that he is aging and that could be his last event.
Atsu has represented Ghana in many international swimming competitions and believes there are many young people who can be trained to become champions.
He commended the Ghana Swimming Association for bringing the 14th CANA African Swimming Championship to Accra and hoped that more events would be held in Ghana.
According to him, he has not trained enough for the big competition a day that was the reason why he could not finish and apologized to his fans and admirers.
He also thanked all the sponsors and media who supported the competition which came to Ghana for the first time.
The Tema based swimmers said he has a club and he is training a few young swimmers to take over from him after he retires
